Step by step
- Plug a lamp or phone charger into the GFCI.
- Press the TEST button. Power should cut immediately.
- Press RESET. Power should return.
- If TEST does nothing or RESET will not hold, stop using that outlet and hire a licensed electrician.
Safety note
GFCIs wear out. Typical life is often quoted as 10-15 years. Age alone is not a diagnosis. If TEST or RESET fails, hire a licensed electrician. Do not open the box yourself.
