Connected electrical load worksheet
Add equipment you already know from a nameplate or manual. The page adds those watts. It does not say whether your service is large enough, whether a permit will pass, or whether an upgrade is required.
Use labels and manuals you can reach without opening a panel or touching damaged equipment. If a rating is missing, leave the row blank. A licensed electrician can collect the rest on site.
Enter at least one valid nameplate value to see a sum.
Bright Pro Electric matches you with an independent licensed electrician who can prepare a permit-ready calculation when the job needs one. We do not stamp forms or guarantee dispatch.
Call (858) 988-5580What this adds. Entered nameplate input power in W or kW, times quantity. Example arithmetic: 5 kW equals 5000 W. Empty fields stay unknown. The sum is connected input power, not demand, not volt-amperes converted from watts, and not required service amperes.
City of San Diego only. For EV charging permits inside the City of San Diego, see Information Bulletin 187 (May 2026). Qualifying private-garage installs may use a Circuit Card with load calculations. Other installs need plans and calculations. Broader electrical-plan rules are on the City's electrical permit plan page. Other cities and the County have their own rules.
A professional calculation looks at the whole home, supply and equipment ratings, how loads run, and the local permit path. This worksheet does not settle whether an upgrade is needed.
FAQ
Is this an NEC load calculation?
No. This worksheet only adds the nameplate input power you enter. It does not apply NEC demand factors, continuous-load multipliers, or a service-size verdict. A licensed electrician prepares the calculation used for a permit.
Why does it not tell me if my panel is compliant?
Connected watts are not the same as calculated demand or required service size. City of San Diego Information Bulletin 187 (May 2026) notes that unless all related equipment and overcurrent devices are listed for 100% rated load, calculated load on that equipment shall not exceed 80% of the nameplate or device rating. This page does not run that check or any other capacity test.
How do I convert 5 kW to watts?
Labeled example only: 5 kW equals 5000 W. Enter the number from the equipment nameplate or manual. Do not open an electrical panel or approach damaged equipment to guess a rating.
What published job-cost figures appear on this page?
Previously published planning figures on this URL remain ~$2,500-4,500 installed for a 200A service upgrade and ~$600-1,200 installed for a load-management device. Those figures are not a quote, not a calculator result, and not a finding that your home needs either option.
