Electrical troubleshooting in San Diego. We find it. The pros we send fix it.
Electrical problems hide. A flickering light might be a loose connection three rooms over. A tripping breaker might be one bad outlet. We don't guess and replace parts. We use clamp meters, infrared cameras, and circuit tracers to find the actual fault, then the pros we send fix it the first time.
What's included in this service?
- Tripping breaker diagnosis (overload, short, ground fault, AFCI nuisance)
- Dead outlet and circuit tracing with toner and circuit tracer
- Flickering light root-cause analysis (connection, voltage, dimmer)
- Hot-to-touch outlet, switch, or wire investigation
- Burning smell or scorch mark assessment
- Voltage drop and high-resistance neutral diagnosis
- Open neutral, open ground, and reverse polarity correction
- Infrared scan of panel, outlets, and connections (premium option)
When do you need this service?
- A breaker keeps tripping and you can't figure out why
- Lights flicker when an appliance turns on (or for no clear reason)
- An outlet is dead and you don't know what circuit it's on
- You smell burning plastic or melted insulation but can't locate it
- A switch, outlet, or wire is hot to the touch
- GFCI keeps tripping and you can't identify the bad load
- Half the house went dark but the main breaker is on
What do homeowners ask about Electrical Troubleshooting?
How much does electrical troubleshooting cost?
Ask whether the diagnostic is credited toward the repair when you book. Most repairs (bad outlet, loose neutral, failed breaker) finish in the same visit and cost $185 to $575. Hidden faults that need wall opening or attic work cost more; we'll tell you before we go down that path.
Why does my breaker keep tripping?
Three usual causes: too much load on the circuit (overload), a short circuit (hot touching neutral or ground), or a real ground fault. AFCI breakers can also trip on arc-fault detection, which is sometimes a real problem and sometimes nuisance. The pros we send diagnose which one it is, not just reset and hope.
Is a burning smell from an outlet an emergency?
Yes. Turn off the breaker for that outlet immediately and call us. A burning smell means insulation is melting or a connection is arcing. This gets flagged urgent when we match you with an electrician.
Why do my lights flicker when the AC kicks on?
Usually a high-resistance connection somewhere on the main service or in the panel. The AC inrush draws hard, and the resistance causes a momentary voltage drop. We find the bad connection. It's almost always something the pros we send can repair without rewiring.
Can you find a dead outlet that's on no obvious circuit?
Yes. Circuit tracers and tone generators identify which breaker controls the outlet, even when the panel directory is wrong (which it usually is in older homes). We re-label the panel directory while we're at it.
